One week after network fires gay meteorologist, its other gay meteorologist abruptly calls it quits (4)

Some major stuff is going down at Kare 11 TV in Minnesota.

About two weeks ago, the network abruptly fired beloved gay meteorologist Sven Sundgaard after he stood up to anti-lockdown protestors on Facebook. Sundgaard, who is one of highest profile LGBTQ people in the Twin Cities, had been with the network for 14 years.

Then lastFriday, the network’s other gay meteorologist, Jason Disharoon, who joined the weather team just last year from New Orleans, announced he was leaving as well, though he didn’t offer any explanation why.

How about we take this to the next level?

Our newsletter is like a refreshing co*cktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.

“I wanted to say thank you Minnesota and western Wisconsin for the wonderful year I’ve had in this absolutely amazing region,” Disharoon said. “From exploring the area when I first arrived to ice skating, ice fishing, Vikings game, and all the amazing friends I made, it’s a year I’ll never forget.”

He then thanked several of his co-workers, including Sundgaard.

“Belinda [Jensen], Sven [Sundgaard] and Laura [Betker] were a delight to work with and helped me to become a better meteorologist. These are skills I’m going to use for the rest of my career,” Disharoon said.

Thank you all so very much for the past 12 months! I will cherish the friends and memories I made here 🙂 I'll see you all at the State Fair!May is #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth Text SEIZE to 741741 or call the Suicide Prevention Lifeline if you or someone you love needs help.

Disharoon frequently used his platform to speak about his personal struggles with depression in an effort to end the stigma around mental illness. He closed out his farewell statement with one last message about suicide prevention.

“If you’re feeling depressed, down, worthless, just know this: you’re not alone. Please reach out to a loved one, or a friend, or to one of the numbers on the screen beside me,” he said, referencing the Suicide Prevention Lifeline and the Crisis Text Line.

It’s unclear whether Disharoon’s departure has anything to do with Sundgaard’s firing. Neither he nor Kare 11 have issued any further comment on his abrupt exit.

Very unfortunate that JD is no longer at KARE. He was far more interesting and much easier on the eyes than Sven Sundgaard. At some point, the reason(s) for his departure will leak out. I don’t think there was any connection to Sundgaard’s troubles, despite the close timing of each one’s departure. I’d like to see another station here in town hire JD…..fingers crossed!

The same mistake was made in the original post. KARE is a station, or a channel, not a network. Networks are a collection of stations.

That was the first thing that struck me as sad. A large organization made up of not only Queerty but other LGBT websites and services, cant even write an article that is factual or checked for content.

Now about the story other than how slipshod it is.

There is still so much hate in the world for us and other minorities. Just look at Georgia and Indianapolis. And if anyone did to these haters what we have done to us, they would be protesting and holding up signs in front of this TV station. This area is very gay friendly. Where are the protests? Why in every live shot that they do, arent there people with signs demanding we be treated fairly?

We have a lot to be thankful for in this country but in many ways we suck.

Writers for QTY don’t get paid much (I knew a freelancer) and so they turn them out quickly with minimal work–they have to, to make a living.

He’s a very Handsome Young Man and I believe he will go far. Gay people work VERY WELL in the servicing industries and it is obvious from this article that he works VERY WELL in the servicing industry. I wish him lots of luck and happiness in the future.

Just curious, would Queerty even be running this ad if the guy was a 5 ft 6 , 300 lb Used car salesman in Kansas somewhere?? NOT!!!! I think you guys do a REAL disservice when you keep perpetuating the gay stereotype of the way WE should look in order to be adorned or liked by others. Not everyone wants to spend 24/7 on the way they look, either by working out all the time, being groomed like they are going to do a model shoot. PLEASE stop it & start running ads on just REGULAR everyday gay guys & women. Such a shame, it really is a form gay bullying that you are perpetuating here . Question , is THAT really The Gay Agenda as you say ??

I’m sorry snuggles65, but could you please share with me how you define “REGULAR everyday gay guys & women”? Are you referring to a stereotypical midwestern aesthetic? South pacific men and women? Urban? Latino or South American? Native American? Japanise or East Indian? Please, oh wise one, tell us what “regular” is, because otherwise, you do just as much a disservice as those you accuse of stereotyping in this article. This article was about a specific person and his career path. Oh, and I didn’t see any measuring sticks, so how do you know he is NOT 5’6″ tall? If the writing here does not meet your “REGULAR everyday gay guys & women” standards, I suggest you start a new website that services your particular needs.

It’s no mystery what “snuggles” thinks. He thinks a “REGULAR everyday gay guy” is a “5 ft 6 , 300 lb Used car salesman in Kansas”!

Hypothetical, and probably not someone he knows in real life (or in, say, the mirror)? Hmm.

Just imagine the comments if Queerty did run a story about a 5 ft 6, 300 lb used car salesman in Kansas. Especially if he was a Trumpt@ rd. Hey actually that would be fun. They should do it.

Pretty sure it’s one of those “well since you fired my hunky boyfriend, I’m gonna leave, too” kind of situations. There’s no other explanation. Sven is much easier on the eyes than Disharoon. He also much more polished in his job performance. If Sven’s boyfriend is that unstable with the depression and such, I’d be looking for a new boyfriend as well as a new job. Good luck, Sven!

It seems to me that we don’t know the whole story here. Typical of Queerty. What if he actually got fired for malpheasants? Not that gay guys don’t get fired for made-up reasons, just so the company doesn’t get hit with a law suit, because this happens. But, gay people do get fired for reasons other than some made-up charge against them, just to get rid of them because they’re hom*osexual. This is why I just don’t think we’re hearing enough background on this. I feel sorry for the guy, it’s terrible to get fired like that, but if you’re in the public eye, you damn well better be careful what you post on social media. It has consequences, fair or not. My final feeling on this is, I don’t know what happened, only those involved really know.
