Laura Betker’s Early Life
Betker was born and raised in the small town of Corcoran in Minnesota. She completed her Bachelor’s degree in Science with a major in Atmospheric and Oceanic Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She attended the university from 2002 to 2006. Besides that, she also holds a degree in International Studies while she studied for Semester at Sea, an education program that also served as a gateway for her to explore the world. During her studenthood, she traveled to numerous countries like France, Ireland, Iceland, Russia, Spain, and Norway. She has always wanted to be a geologist, but later the world of meteorology fascinated her. Since then, she began to pursue the job.
Before becoming a meteorologist in 2012, she also worked as an associate manager at Weather Eye Radio Network from 2006 to 2008. Later she became the director of Star of the North Chinese Shar Pei Club in March 2008 and held the position for two years. From May 2008 to March 2010, Betker was the executive assistant of the non-profit organization American Heart Association. Besides working as a meteorologist from Kare 11, she also worked in the same position at WLIO-TV from 2010 to 2012.

The Kare 11 meteorologist married Bryan Piatt, a mental health campaigner. Betker and Piatt have come a long way since their marriage and are currently in a happy and long-term marriage. Bryan Piatt used to be a TV anchor as well. Currently, Piatt hosts the podcast “Take What Serves You, Leave The Rest” and provides a safe space for people to talk about their mental health on his platform. Laura Betker is a proud mother of three daughters. It has been confirmed that neither Laura nor her husband has planned of having a fourth child so far. They have declined the rumors of her pregnancy. Looking at her posts online, it is clear that they are perfectly content to be living as a family. Currently, Laura Betker and Bryan Piatt are parents to three beautiful daughters and a pet dog. Laura and Bryan gave birth to their first daughter in January 2015. In 2017, they welcomed their second daughter, and last year in November, Laura gave birth to their third daughter and named her Bianca. She confirmed the news of her motherhood for the second time in May through an Instagram post.
An Instagram post from 16th February, around the end of her maternity leave, shows Laura Betker along with her husband, their three daughters, and their dog. She captioned the post as “Family of five. Plus, Penny Jane ‘pet dog’ makes six.” Besides her job, she also enjoys gardening and cooking. Her Social Media is full of pictures that show her gardening achievements. Be it garlic harvest or flowers from Kare 11 prairie, her feed shows that she’s a nature’s child.
